The potential for new collaborations! Data Science is a lingua franca, a common language that can link disciplines and lines of inquiry. The UvA Data Science community is a window on the cutting-edge and paradigm-shifting research being done across the university, and it’s exciting to both reflect and advance that.
First and foremost, I’ll be getting to know the community—listening to people’s experiences, learning more about data science methods, and being inspired by ongoing research.
Then, I’ll be focused on strengthening and growing the community by working with DSC faculty hubs across the university. I’ll also focus on curating a richer stream of research outputs, event information, and interviews for the DSC bulletin, and taking the first tentative towards planning AI & Data Science Day 2026!
This isn’t a “concrete” initiative yet but I’m also an illustrator and comic book artist interested in collaborating with researchers to present their work in new visual or interactive formats. I follow emerging fields like Graphic Medicine closely, and I think there’s a lot to explore at the intersection of comics and data science.

I’ve been re-reading The Turing Way in preparation for this role. It’s a wonderful resource I heartily recommend - an open-source community-driven guide to reproducible, ethical, inclusive and collaborative data science.
You can reach me on email at dsc@uva.nl – I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on how we can improve the community, and what you’d like to see from the DSC. I’m keen to hear about upcoming events and interesting research, and I’m always open for a chat over coffee or oolong tea.
