From Monday, February 24 to Thursday, February 27, the UvA Data Science Centre, part of Library, in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit will be hosting a four-day course for researchers and master's students from UvA and VU. The course aims to provide a foundational understanding of programming with Python, Unix Shell, and Git.

The course material is based on The Carpentries; a global organisation of researchers, programmers, and knowledge workers who provide accessible instruction in data and software skills to their peers.

The course will cover the following topics: 

  • Programming with Python
  • Unix Shell 
  • GitHub 

Upon successful completion, participants can be awarded a SURF Edubadge that can be shared on your LinkedIn or CV.

Required basic knowledge

No prior knowledge is required. Participants will receive links to download Open Source software prior to the start of the workshop. The course instruction and materials are in English.
