This 2,5-day training prepares you to teach workshops, using evidence-based practices and open source materials.
You are a UvA researcher or staff member and have some experience with Python, R, Unix shell, git, SQL, OpenRefine or spreadsheet software. However, you certainly do not need to be an expert! The Carpentry community welcomes beginners, because transferring knowledge is a great way to learn.
It is appreciated you are prepared to commit yourself to give at least 1 or 2 carpentries workshops over the coming two years that can (also) be communicated through the UvA Data Science Centre.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us via dsc@uva.nl.
If you would like to familiarize yourself with the Carpentries first, before signing up for the instructor workshop, please reach out. You’re more than welcome to join a workshop, assist as a helper or even get in some teaching practice under the guidance of a certified instructor, before possibly certifying yourself at a later stage.
Seats are allocated based on motivation, alignment with the requirements, and balanced representation across faculties and institutes. DSC affiliate membership is considered a plus.
Interested in participating? Please complete the application form below. Seats will be allocated by the end of January 2026. Once allocated, you will receive a code to choose a training date that suits you. Registration for this call closes at the end of February, though the training can take place later (e.g., in March).
