AI for Science: opportunities and challenges

10.30-12.00: LAB42 (Hall), Science Park

Artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionise scientific discovery, accelerate research progress, boost innovation and improve researchers’ productivity. How to take hold of the opportunities, and also respond to the challenges and risks associated with this fast-evolving technology?

Join us for presentations by Prof. dr. Paul Groth (Scientific director Data Science Centre) and dr. Bernd Ensing (Director FNWI AI4Science Laboratory), followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Daniela Huppenkothen (staff researcher at SRON Netherlands and Data Science fellow at the University of Washington) and Prof. Alfons Hoekstra (scientific director of the new FNWI Molecular and Material Design hub). Data science in Medicine: From ideation to production

10.30-12.00: Amsterdam UMC (Costerzaal)

Discover how data science drives medical innovation from early-stage ideas and research to real-world applications. Presentations will cover topics as Large Language Models (LLMs) in healthcare, machine learning in diagnostics and prognostics, and the role of open science in research collaboration.

Navigating the GDPR: Informing data subjects and ensuring compliance in research projects

Join this info session to learn about the GDPR’s information provision obligations for researchers using personal data from sources like social media or archives.

Dario Boot, Faculty of Humanities privacy officer, will explain when and how to inform people, and dr. Kamran Adeli will introduce the privacy protection review in the Humanities RMS portal. Data Discovery Jam: Exploring rich social science datasets

13.00-16.00: CREA (Muziekzaal), Roeterseilandcampus (REC)

Join us for a Data Discovery Jam and explore diverse large datasets at the faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Researchers will introduce rich datasets on: Emotions and populist attitudes (Prof. dr. Agneta Fisher); predicting student success (dr. Niels Smits), and gender representation in film and television (dr. Saurabh Khanna). Collaborate in a hands-on data science session, analyzing and visualizing data of your choice. Cancelled: Data Science and the Humanities: Innovation through collaboration

This Humanities Labs session will showcase data science-driven innovations in humanities research, featuring presentations from researchers, an interactive workshop, and a keynote on integrating data science in traditional humanist scholarship. Explore the Labs' resources and the possibilities of interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond the humanities.

Generative AI in HRM: Applications, challenges, and ethical considerations

15.00-17.30: Roeterseilandcampus (REC), (Building M, Room M1.01)

Explore the transformative potential of Generative AI (Gen-AI) in Human Resource Management and beyond. This event brings together HR professionals, tech vendors, regulators, and multidisciplinary researchers to discuss innovative applications, ethical challenges, and responsible implementation of Gen-AI across various sectors. Network with Amsterdam-based AI, HR, and People Analytics communities.
