From invisible to visible: Uncovering narratives of the past with 3D reconstructions
As one strolls through city streets, they encounter echoes of the past: buildings that have disappeared, practices that have been forgotten, and tales of people who once were. 3D reconstructions serve as a powerful tool to unearth these hidden narratives, bridging the gap between the past and the present by making the invisible visible. This presentation will explore a selection of cases that demonstrate the value of 3D historical reconstructions for historical research. However, it will also address the inherent challenges associated with the representation of the past.
Everyone from all disciplines is welcome to attend! The presentation will take place in-person only, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and engage in lively discussion on the day.
Chiara Piccoli is Research Fellow and Data Scientist at the 4D Research Lab of the University of Amsterdam and affiliated researcher at the Data Science Centre. Her research primarily focuses on urban and domestic contexts, with a specialization in the use of 3D modelling and GIS mapping for historical data visualisation, analysis, and communication.
