Workshop JASP & Machine Learning

In this workshop you will get acquainted with the open-source statistics program JASP, with special focus on the machine learning module. The workshop is mainly intended for researchers working with statistics and/or machine learning. No prior knowledge of JASP is required.

Due to popular demand on Data Science Day 2022, the UvA Data Science Centre, part of the UvA Library, is hosting a second workshop on JASP and Machine Learning at the Roeterseilandcampus (REC) on February 24!

Having some considerable advantages over SPSS, JASP is gaining ground and here to stay. JASP enables both frequentist and Bayesian statistical procedures. Modules can be activated to enable more specific analysis, for instance for meta-analysis, machine learning, learning statistics, industrial quality control, auditing, and more.

Workshop programme 

In the first part of this workshop we introduce JASP (jasp-stats.org), an open-source statistical software program with an intuitive and graphical user interface.  

In the second part of this workshop we explore the machine learning module in more detail. We apply popular machine learning techniques to concrete data sets, and discuss associated exercises. Our goal is to familiarize participants with JASP, and highlight the ease with which JASP allows relatively complex analyses to be executed and interpreted.  

The workshop is in English. A free lunch is provided.

Time: 10.00-13.00 (with lunch until 14.00) 

Registration 

Registration is free of cost, with prioritization to members of the Data Science Centre and UvA-researchers. If enough spots are available, MA-students are also welcome to join.

Pre-requisites for attendees: No prior knowledge of JASP is required. It is recommended that participants bring their laptop with the latest version of JASP installed.
